My research focus is on modeling and optimizing the selective catalytic oxidation of small hydrocarbons in a fixed-bed reactor. In order to better understand the complex system involving reaction kinetics, heat and mass transfer, detailed reactor model is needed. I am currently working on two different approach: the porous media model and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). In the porous media model, the interplay of diffusion and reaction inside the catalyst particle (micro-scale) are of main interest. On the other side, the CFD modelling concentrate on flow through different packings (macro-scale) and the accompanied heat transfer problem.
